Program: The national rail-trail movement began in the Midwest in the 1960s with an idea to convert abandoned or unused rail corridors, which people were already beginning to walk on anyway, into more attractive and accessible trails for public use. The idea began to spread, and now over 21k miles of rail-trails can be found in America; to date, 338 of those miles are here in Texas. Eagle Lake has joined with a group of other small communities to get started on our own trail which will eventually run from here to Fulshear for about 31 miles of hiking and biking opportunities. Eagle Lake stands to benefit economically as well as aesthetically from the development of this trail, and we hope you will all "get on board" with our local Rails-to-Trails project.
